Zara woke to the sound of her phone buzzing like it was trying to claw its way out of the nightstand. At first, she thought it was just another flood of messages from trolls—nothing she hadn’t gotten used to. But the moment she unlocked the screen, her blood turned to ice.
The headline screamed at her from every feed:
> “UNEDITED FOOTAGE FROM ‘HEARTLINES’ EXPOSES BEHIND-THE-SCENES AFFAIR”
There they were. She and Jesse—caught in grainy, raw angles, the kind the show’s glossy edits always cleaned up. Unscripted touches. Real arguments. That night in the control room when he had pressed her against the wall, telling her he couldn’t stand watching her pretend with another man. The mic had been on.
Her stomach churned. This wasn’t just exposure—it was betrayal. Someone from inside wanted to destroy them.
She stormed into Jesse’s apartment without knocking. He was already watching the footage on his laptop, jaw tight, his eyes dark with fury.
“They wanted dirt?” Zara’s voice cracked like a whip. “Now they’ve got the whole damn quarry.”
Jesse slammed the lid shut. “This isn’t just about us. This is about every lie they’ve ever fed the audience. Every manipulated tear, every staged fight. If they think this will scare me—” He stopped himself, fists clenching.
“They’re trying to make us the scandal so no one looks deeper,” Zara spat, pacing like a caged animal. “They want the public too busy dissecting our kisses to notice how they’re bleeding contestants dry for ratings.”
Jesse’s voice dropped low, dangerous. “Then we give them something bigger to choke on.”
For the first time in days, she saw it—the dangerous spark in his eyes that had drawn her in from the start. Not just attraction. War.
They spent the next hours digging. Jesse pulled old drive backups from his cameraman days—raw interviews never meant to air, clips showing producers feeding contestants lines, manipulating them into breakdowns. Zara reached out to her few remaining allies in the cast, offering them a choice: stay silent and safe, or go down swinging with them.
By nightfall, they had enough to not just defend themselves—but to burn the entire empire to the ground.
Zara leaned against Jesse’s shoulder, exhaustion making her tremble. “When we do this… there’s no coming back.”
Jesse turned to her, eyes locked on hers. “Then let’s make sure there’s nothing left worth coming back to.”
Outside, the city lights flickered like camera flashes. Inside, two people who had been scripted into a lie were about to t
urn the cameras on everyone else.
