Chapter 00
Day 00
~*~
Albuquerque around twenty minutes to midnight.
Chrees Moore – a young man in his early twenties wearing a brown jacket – was wandering through the almost deserted streets of the city. Just under six feet tall two and with a physique typical of a daily exerciser, he had greasy, side-shaven hair and, above all, a black eye. What’s more, he gave the impression of wanting to beat up the first person who had the misfortune to cross his path. In fact, as he was venturing into an alleyway virtually devoid of people, he didn’t hesitate to kick a trash can that just happened to be there, thus spilling its contents onto the ground.
“Bastards! They’re all fucking assholes! Fuck all of you!”
Moore continued to lash out at the garbage can, hurling numerous insults at a certain Russell whom he blamed for the situation he found himself in. His aggression towards this inanimate object did not go unnoticed, however, and attracted the attention of the few people still on the street. They all decided to walk on the opposite side of the street to him, and some even chose not to meet his gaze.
About ten minutes later, Chrees stopped lashing out at the garbage can. He was still angry and still wanted to vent his feelings, but he’d rather do it on a person, preferably Russell, than on this inanimate object. Therefore, he ventured further afield, wandering aimlessly through the streets of Albuquerque, at least until the urge to see and talk to one of his contacts took hold of him. So, he grabbed his cell phone and made the call, only to be informed less than two seconds later that the person he was trying to reach was unavailable. He repeated the operation, but was again unsuccessful.
“Pick up the phone, damn it!” he exclaimed furiously.
The young man tried again and again to get in touch with this person, but with each failure, his level of frustration and anger increased. Finally, after the umpteenth attempt, it reached its peak and he violently threw his cell phone, which shattered into several pieces once it hit the ground. Realizing what he’d just done, he vented all his anger and frustration in the form of insults at Amelia, the person he’d been desperate to get on the other end of the phone.
Now with no means of communication, Chrees was a ball of nerves ready to lash out at anyone who had the misfortune to upset him or even exchange an inappropriate glance with him. And to make matters worse, he had a sudden urge to urinate, but there was no public toilet nearby. No problem for him, he simply unzipped his pants and relieved himself in the very spot where the debris from his cell phone lay. And if the few passers-by there didn’t appreciate what he was doing, they were free to ignore him, contemplate his cock, or come and say things to his face if they had the courage to do so.
“You’re all going to pay for this. Amelia, Russell, you’ve got nothing to lose by waiting. Just wait,” he retorted as he went about his business.
After finishing urinating, Moore set off again towards… He didn’t have a specific destination in mind, but he needed to walk, not only to clear his mind, but also to think about how to get revenge on all the people who had wronged him. Russell was the easiest to get. He just had to show up at his former job the following day to settle the score with him. Now, as for Amelia, it was much more complicated, not really knowing where she lived.
“Fuck it! I’ll just go to her job.”
About ten minutes later, as he was moving along a street perpendicular to the one which he’d destroyed his cell phone on, Chrees spotted a bar open a little further on. Seeing this establishment with the name Dionysos emblazoned in large letters above its entrance, he thought it would be a good idea to refresh his gullet, especially as he really needed to decompress after the shitty day he’d had. Unfortunately, as he was looking inside his pockets, he realized that he had absolutely nothing on him, not a single bill or coin. All he found was the retractable knife he usually carried with him wherever he went and his wallet, which was just as empty as his pockets.
Faced with the state of his finances, the young man saw the image of him sipping a good beer gradually fading away. It occurred to him that the whole universe was against him. He couldn’t afford even a simple drink. So, it was with growing frustration that he passed the bar. However, it was also at this moment that he noticed that there were only two people inside the establishment: a red-haired young woman and an old man.
Seeing these two individuals, a gloomy thought appeared in Chrees’ mind. He didn’t have to pay for his drink. All he had to do was walk into this building, sit peacefully at the bar, order and drink his bottles of beer, and walk out quietly when he’d finished. And if that woman behind the counter got in the way of his plan, he’d just have to play the card of the guy too drunk to pay or use the object in his pocket. If a confrontation were to break out, he was sure he could prevail, believing that neither of these two people would be able to stop him if he decided to use force. Hence, the young man headed for the bar, ready to put his plan into action.
*
Before Moore entered the Dionysos, the two people he had observed a short while earlier were about to say their goodbyes. However, as he stepped into the establishment, the old man who had a bad feeling about that young man who had just entered the bar discreetly asked his interlocutor if she needed him to stay a little longer.
“No need, Richard. I’m a big girl and I wouldn’t want to keep you any longer than necessary,” she replied with a slight smile.
“Sometimes, I forget who I’m talking to. Anyway, have a great night, Alicia.”
“Thank you very much, Richard. Have a good night too.”
Richard headed for the exit and took the opportunity to exchange a sort of accusatory glance with the young man who then wondered if this old man wanted to get his ass kicked.
“Who do you think you are, looking at me like that?”
This was too much. He wasn’t going to let people look down on him anymore. He was going to show them what he was really made of, starting with that old fool. And just as Chrees was about to take on Richard in a sneaky way, Alicia suddenly addressed her new client.
“I’m going to be closing soon. So, if you want a drink, you’d better do it now, or you can come back tomorrow.”
Hearing that, the young man put an end to his nefarious plan and simply watched Richard leave the establishment. Nevertheless, he told himself that that old man had been lucky, very lucky that there were more important things for him to do. Chrees then took a seat at the counter in front of Alicia who asked him what he wanted to drink.
“A beer,” he replied.
“I got you.”
While she went to fetch him his drink from the fridge, he took the opportunity to check her out and couldn’t help but find her very attractive. In particular, he had a soft spot for her pretty little ass, which was prominently displayed in her Jean pants. When he saw her, there was only one thing on his mind, and that was to fuck her. The young man wanted to take her on the counter, force her to suck his cock, and penetrate her in every hole and position imaginable. That would be so much fun, he thought.
“It must’ve been a tough day”, Alicia retorted, setting the drink down in front of him and hinting at his face.
“Yeah, a real shitty day.”
Chrees started drinking his beer under Alicia’s watchful gaze, which didn’t fail to irritate him. He finally asked her why she was staring at him like that.
“Oh, calm down. No need to get so worked up. It’s only you and me here. Who else am I going to look at?”
“You’re pissing me off. Look at something else.”
Moore found this Alicia odd, especially as she hadn’t stopped smiling since she’d put the beer bottle down in front of him. It irritated him even more because he felt she was literally making fun of him. However, whatever she thought of him, it didn’t change his plans or how the evening would end. Chrees then finished his first drink and asked for a second one.
“Okay. I’ll serve you right away. But you’ll have to hurry up and finish it. I’m closing in a few minutes.”
While Alicia’s back was turned, Chrees drew his retractable knife from his pocket and leaped over the counter. He operated so quickly that the young woman had no time to react and found herself held hostage, the tip of the blade just millimeters from her neck.
“Don’t make a move if you don’t want me to stab you. The cash register! Open it!”
Alicia complied and slowly opened the cash register. However, contrary to his expectations, Moore discovered that it was practically empty, with only a dozen bills inside.
“The cash! Where’s the rest of the cash?!”
“Everybody pays by card these days.”
“Don’t fuck with me, okay! Where’s the rest of the cash?” he exclaimed, putting the tip of the knife to Alicia’s neck.
And because he exerted a certain amount of pressure with his bladed weapon, Chrees ended up nicking her slightly, causing a slight trickle of blood down her neck.
“OKAY, OKAY, OKAY! Take it easy. I’ll show you where the rest of the money is.”
Alicia led him into her office, which was in a room just behind the bar, and pointed to the one and only painting on the wall.
“Any sudden move and I kill you.”
The young woman gently unhooked the painting, revealing a safe hidden behind it. Moore immediately asked her to open it, which she did without the slightest objection. And inside, much to Chrees’ delight, were numerous bundles of cash, enough to last him for many weeks.
Faced with so much money, the young man lost his senses and pushed Alicia out of the way to collect the cash himself. And because he was far too focused on the lure of money rather than on looking after his hostage, he didn’t realize that Alicia had pulled a brass knuckle from her pocket. It was only after he had literally stuffed his pockets that he realized his mistake. Unfortunately, however, he was already too late. The moment Chrees turned around, he was greeted by a punch to the face. The impact with the steel was so violent that he collapsed to the ground, not understanding what had just happened.
“You picked the wrong bar, asshole.”
Disoriented, Chrees found himself unable to react when Alicia landed a second punch that knocked him unconscious moments later.
*
Several hours later, Chrees woke up in a room totally devoid of light. His head and the rest of his body ached, and he was cold. Above all, he was unable to make the slightest movement. Frightened not only by the situation he now found himself in, but also by the footsteps he was hearing, he had no idea that his encounter with Alicia, the red-haired woman, would have a drastic impact on his life and forever change the way he saw women.
